Homework
I hate homework. I hear this all the time from everyone, I doubt that there are anyone out there that enjoys doing it. I usually do well on the tests and quizzes but when it came to homework I usually forget to do it. So my grade dropped from what could be an A or B to a C or D. Anyone else think homework shouldn't be mandatory and only for those that would like to get a better understanding of the subject they're studying.

I agree with you on that statement about homework! If we are old enough to pay for school and go voluntarily it should be our perogative if we want to do homework. Now I do think that it will help tremendously but we have all had that professor who takes homework to the extreme and used it in place of classwork. Last semester I had a teacher who cancelled class frequently. On average we met once a week but he gave out ridiculous amounts of homework for the class to make up for what he wasnt doing. So yes I agree. Homework, in my opinion is something to coincide with what the teacher is speaking and teaching on.
Homework is essential to all students. We need homework: to practice and get a thorough understanding of the subject; to prepare us for tests and quizzes; to fill the time during the semester. If you don't need to do the homework, because you are familiar with the subject, then it shouldn't take you long to do the homework! What it boils down to, you're lazy!!
If you think about it, for the online classes, there is no homework. It's all classwork.
I try to make all the work meaningful. If there's a way to improve the quality or quantity, speak up.
Damon is right; homework is 'practice.' I would hate for any professionals not to have had homework. If my Doctor didn't do her homework, how in the world could she have the wealth of information needed to diagnosis illnesses?
ummm. There's one surefire way not to have homework! Don't attend school.
Think of your school experience this way . . . are you an active or passive learner? If you are an active learner, I'll bet your grades are high! Folks either love learning, or they don't.
Putting my soapbox away now....
Optional work assignments... hmm, interesting. I love the term "homework" used here. Do we really have "homework" anymore anyway? In this class, some would say it's all homework since most of us are not physically in class when we’re working on assignments. Standing by that statement, I find it very necessary to do homework in order to excel in a class. I think there are people out there that know more about a subject, but if you aren't keeping current with class assignments, how can you pass an exam based on these things?
Homework is important because it is at the intersection between home and school.Through practice and participation in learning tasks, homework boosts an individuals drive for success. The ability of an individual to bring an assignment home, gather and organize necessary materials to complete the assignment, return the assignment and receive a grade, strengthens his or her sense of responsibility. These points, however, only apply if the individual does "his" homework and not get someone else to do it.
I agree that homework is essential to learning. Without the continual practice I receive from homework I could not truly understand the subject. It helps to organize your thoughts on a subject and keeps the information in the forefront of your mind until you are ready to use it. Yeh for homework!
I believe that homework is necessary and beneficial to all students. We all need to practice, help us prepare for quizzes, tests and midterms. If you already know the material then doing homework should not take you long at all!!
I have mixed feelings about that. For online classes, there isn't really homework, like much of the others say. But for classroom, whats the point of spending 1-2 hours in a room learing, and then still going home to do the same thing. Kinda defeats the purpose in my eyes.
I completely agree that homework is no fun, but I do feel that it is essential to practice the material. It helps students learn how to apply the information in different ways and only "practice makes perfect."
I think that homework is what I consider busy work. Work that is meant to keep you busy and keep the topic at hand fresh in your mind. I dont like doing, but I think that in some cases it is necessary.
I have seen the benefits of homework. When I do my homeowork I get good grades when I don't do my homework I don't. But I do feel that sometimes teachers give you homework just for busy work with no purpose.
I was thinking the exact oposite of dc. Everything I do in the online class is homework. Regardless of what it is called no effort equals no reward.
