Drought
We have been hearing so much about the drought for almost a year now. Everybody is cutting down on the useage of water, which means you can't wash your cars that often, can't water your lawn, etc. Ever since we have done that we have saved an extremely large amount of water, but there are more things we have to worry about. There are so many leaks around this area; I know they are trying to fix them but how? seeing there are so many of them. When summer comes around are the kids going to be able to swim or play around with water hoses? I still think there is a lot we can do to help with this situation.

People can continue to wash their cars; only at car washes that recycle their water. I am a conspiracy theorist, I believe the state wants us to cut back our water usuage, allowing the water companies to raise their rates, while we use less water, meaning more profits$$!
My question is what has Atlanta done after the last big drought
(1985)? Was the plan that if there is another drought then the governor would "pray" for rain and it would solve everything? I can't believe how the government has dropped the ball on this matter, when it was a fact even back then that Atlanta would continuously grow; therefore more water would be drawn from the reservoirs (or did they not figure on that?). Do they expect that everything will be solved just by people conserving? I don't think so!!
Lauren, do you mean Atlanta as a whole, or just the little consumer like you and me? I know I have cut water usage considerably and my water bill stays the same. Is this just a ploy for the water companies to make a profit?
The water companies are the county you live in. Each county has their own water department. There is no regional consensus on water supply or use. If one government can't screw it up enough let's have 15 or 20 work individually. Throw in three states suing each other, that will get the courts involved. They are a big help in providing rational directives. Just for good measure we can put the Army Corp of Engineers in charge of controlling the reservoir. The same guys in charge of levies in Louisianna. If raising rates was the solution I would be glad to pay an approriate rate for the most valuable commodity on the planet. However, this is just another example of how ineffective governments are at running anything.
I spent a couple of bucks on a bottlel of windshield washer fluid. The green stuff with "bug off" formula works best. Then I wash the car in two or three square foot sections starting at the top. Get a box of painters rags the disposable ones, start wet, then damp cloth, and finally dry. It's like cleaning a window. It really does not take any more work than washing with water.
The fluid won't hurt your paint. All the new cars have polycoat not wax. If you do wax your car I would test a small area first.
Pmoten I agree with you I have cut my water usage a lot and my bill is higher than ever. I'm starting to think that maybe this is a plot to break our pockets. My bill is super high. I don't understand it at all.
