Is Immigration the blame for African American not having jobs?

While watching the Democratic debate last night, someone E-mail a statement wanting to know what was the candidate's view on African Americans losing jobs opportunities to immigrants. I thought that was a stupid thing to say. I think that was a poor excuse for the lack of work ethic in some African Americans in this country. If immigrants can come to this country and make it, what about you who was born here. I am an immigrant who came to this country with my family the right way. I have a Greencard and I am allow to live here as long as I want. I pay taxes like every other American, I think I have the right to have the same jobs as every other American with the same qualifications that I have. We immigrants have to work twice as hard to get the same opportunities as African Americans who were born in this country. Let me give you a common example, I am not a citizen yet, so I am not able to recive Federal Aid for school. I work a full-time job to pay for school and I take three classes every semester. I am not trying to say I am better than anyone, but if I can do it, what about the person who is a citizen of this country and can recive federal aid. I see students on this campus everyday spending their class time in the cafeteria hanging out with their friends, with out a care in the world.I am sure they don't have to work and pay for their education.

I dont think it has anything to do with African Americans not having jobs. Before any immigration issues like we are having now there were still issues with African Americans not having jobs. I don't want to go any further in fear that someone may take a remark or opinion the wrong way but immigration has nothing to do with African Americans getting jobs.

I agree with Aaron, it's sad, but it seems some will always blame others for what they don't have. Instead, they should focus on setting goals and putting together a plan to accomplish them. I think we all have opportunities, the key is, what will you do with it!

I agree, as a son of an immigrant. I am an American Citizen, but understand the struggle of immigrants since I have lived it. This notion that immigrants take jobs from African Americans is absurd, it is a clear example of scapegoating, if that is even a word. There are issues within the African American community that need to be worked out but immigration is not one of them. But lets also remember this notion is the thoughts of a few and most likely not the majority of African Americans, it was just a random e-mail sent to the Democratic debate.

Hi Roses,

I am disagree your example that you are not citizen that's why you can't get a Pell Grant. My sister received a Pell Grant for her 4 years undergraduated. She recent become citizen and is not able to receive any more aid from Pell Grant. She has to have student loan or pay from her pockets for her school tuition.
No matter who we are, we all have opportunities getting jobs.

I don't think that Immigration is the reason for loss of jobs among African Americans, but I definitely think that if employers didn't take advantage of Immigrants willing to work for less that more people in general would be employed.

I wouldn't blame immigration, I would just look at the economy in general b/c to me now this is sounding more racial than anything, I don't believe just african americans aren't employed, there are many people out of work for various reasons. Everyone has different circumstances, i.e. laziness, health, family, economic reasons, etc. So I also agree that those are two seperate issues, and one does not effect the other.

I don't think that immigration is the blame for African American not having jobs. I do think that immigrants are doing jobs that was only offered to Afican American in the last 100 years. Afican American have fought and continue to fight for equality in this country, and that fight has made it very easy for some immigrants to enter this country and feel free to be and do as they please. Also, have your ever heard "don't judge a book by it's cover"?

Looking at things from a neutral point of view,I think that the issue of African Americans not having jobs is dependent on two things. The first thing is racism. If a white man and a black man apply for a job,the whiteman is likely to have the job before the black guy.And if people are to be laid off a job, then the first to be laid off as black people.
On the other hand, black people do not want to go to school despite all the financial aid awarded by the government. For example here in Georgia Perimeter, majority of the students who make over two years to get an associate degree are blacks.Again here in Atlanta, how many whites are bus drivers?I don't think I have been driven by a white driver so far! Why?Because the black people don't want to go to school!Simple and clear!
I am African and black.Though there is racism but I think black people should go to school and have better jobs and stop trying to veil themselves with lousy complaints. There is no way any black person can graduate with honors and don't have a job.Again my view should not be misunderstood by any of the parties.I am just being fair!!

Ok, I am very pleased to be able to respond to this issue of job loss. If anyone is paying attention to the economy you will see that we are on the brink of or in a recession. The job market in general is taking people 3-6 months to find employment after job loss. I really get tired of people coming over here thinking and saying that black americans are this or that and they think we are lazy and so on.... Let me tell you that it has nothing to do with blacks being lazy it all has to do with parenting and the school system in which the children attend. 3 out 4wealthy Americans have there children in private schools, why? Their are better teachers and the curriculum and funding for these programs. I am a black American and I am tired of people coming over here being salty about things they already know; but they want to complain about it. Dont complain, continue doing what you are doing because their is someone out there who is not even in your shoes. STOP POINTING FINGER AND WORRY ABOUT YOURSELF!This is a country of opportunity if you have a good idea and there is a need, you will become wealthy. It is just that some people have better cards given than others. Lets debate about this issus! Whoever wrote this blog, please respond to me....
