The Double Standard
I am looking to buy a car now, so I went to this car dealership to check out prices. I guess they must have seen 'fresh meat' written across my face because I was approached by this salesman that remined me of the devil trying to negotiate a deal for me to sell my soul. Since this was not my first experience with used car dealerships, I kept my cool, made sure I displayed knowledge of what I wanted and stayed focus on what I wanted without coming on too strong. The car's price was initially 11K, by the time I was through with negotiations, the price had went down to 8K. Pretty good, huh? I still could can not help wondering if I would have been a man , would I have been approached in that way or would I've had to try so hard to prove my wits? I still didn't buy the car because I felt so pressured and because I found the same car, cheaper, somewhere else. Why is there STILL a double standard in that regard? Women have truly evolved.

I believe it is presumed that women do not have a working knowledge of cars, therefore is is easier to "pull one over" on them. I think you did an excellent job with your negotiations.
Ummm. Car salesman may be among the last holdouts to seeing the light (women power).
My twin sister had a similar experience, except she called the 1st dealer and told them why she bought from the 2nd.
I think Saturn makes a lot of sales to women because they understand their audience.
oops! I meant salesmen!
Every time I buy a car, a research, research, and research more. I also check every dealers price. Usually when I am ready to buy a car, I start comparing 6 months in advance, that way I am not "forced" to buy a car. When I talk to a car salesman, I am ready!! So far, I had good experience, since I knew what I wanted, what the bottom price was (they were surprised when I knew about the mechanics of the car!). If they weren't ready to negotiate, I just walked away.
I have always been able to buy a car for the price I was wiling to pay. My friends now always ask my to help them when they are buying a car. The only thing I can suggest is do your homework.
