This past Saturday several cities were asked to participate in Earth Hour. What was asked of the cities was for the lights that were not essential to be turned off from 8pm until 9pm. They point of Earth Hour was to see how much energy the World uses. Personally, I was excited to participate in such an event that encourages change. So at 8 Saturday night I turned off all of the lights that were in use. I listened to my Ipod for an hour. I felt good that I was trying to help out the Planet. Did anyone else participate? If so, do you think that people will start using less light? If not, why? I have included a URL address for an advertisement for Earth Hour. Let me know what you think.

I did not participate in Earth Hour. Actually, I wasn't aware of it. I think people are going to continue business as usual. Most don't believe what they contribute will make a difference.
I didn't know about Earth Hour until the day after it happened. I saw it on a bill board. It would be intresting though to see how much energy we do use. Maybe they'll do it again though and I'll get to participate next time.
I, also didnt about Earth hour. I did hear about it afterwards on the news. WHATEVER!!! I would love to do my part to help the earth, but as long as NASA keep shooting shuttles into space, we can forget about the little things we do.
Wow, I didn't realize how many people didn't participate in Earth Hour. Last year it was reported that turning the lights off for one hour in Sydney, Australia was like taking 48,000 cars off the road. I do agree with "damon" that NASA needs to relax with all the shuttle launches.
Even though I don't live in the Atlanta city limits, we honored the Earth Hour. My husband and I are trying to bring awareness to our 8 year old daughter that little things make a difference (like taking shorter showers to conserve waer). It was a very relaxing hour, we were actually able to slow down a bit and we played a board game together as a family by candle light. At the end, my daughter was disappointed that it didn't last longer.
I was aware of earth day, but forgot to take part in it on that date, I guess there wasn't enough advertising for it. I just got this interesting fact from the Department of Environment and natural resources "The average American contributes 1,859 pounds of air pollution to the atmosphere each year" so if eveyone participated at least one day a year it should have a substancial impact I feel.
i was at work when it took place, i wanted to do something but by the time i remembered it was too last. i did hear on the news that many people took place in it.
Interesting, though ineffective. We already know how much energy we use... what we need to do is not just reduce energy usage but to more importantly invest and promote environmental freindly energy sources. (wind, hydro, nuclear, solar) The world still relies on Coal, and that is what needs to be reduced. Perhaps we should have a non-coal burning day? A day where you actually are unable to turn on your lights due to insufficient energy being actively produced... And invest in solar panels? etc. I will definitly participate in that!
